Dedric Moore of Kansas City psych-electronic band Monta At Odds, while reading a Philip K. Dick short story about Martian cloud people coming to Earth for safety (and not receiving it), news broke that ‘Mysterious Clouds’ had formed on Mars. This coincidence (or was it a form of communication from the universe that shouldn’t be neglected?) seemed too intense not to act upon. A new identify was formed – aptly titled Mysterious Clouds. Dedric walked through the haze, grabbed a guitar and a variety of fuzz pedals, and set the controls for interstellar travel. Illuminated by an emotion from beyond, he started writing songs about space, lost time, regret, panic, and nervous hope for the future of humanity.

Mysterious Clouds is a project that explores aspects of cosmic space music. The group was formed in 2015 and the music is composed by Kansas City, Kansas musician Dedric Moore with songwriting assistance from his brother Delaney Moore. Live performances feature a rotating cast of members, including Brian Hodes and Monta at Odds bandmates Aaron Osborne, Zach Bozich, Matthew Hayden, and Adam Davies. Jonathan Thatch of HMPH! and Mika Tayana have also played drums with the group as well. Mysterious Clouds was created to explore various forms of psychedelic music and the darker elements of nature with inspirations from 60’s Italian cinema, 70’s British TV action music, San Francisco hippie psychedelic rock, garage rock, progressive rock, experimental music, psych-pop, and post-punk. Mysterious Clouds have performed with Deerhoof, Mono, Crocodiles, Ancient River, Thor & Friends, The Octopus Project, Hibou, the Myrrors, Spaceface, Expo 70, and more.

Their first release, Vibrations Shake the Path on Haymaker Records, explores the classic 60’s mono mix approach. The follow-up full-length Panic on the Noon Meridian was released on May 26, 2017 as a collaborative release between Haymaker Records and Lawrence, Kansas cassette tape label Whatever Forever and explores swirls of shoegaze rock, the space exploration of psychedelia, and the drone of ambient music. The group’s latest EP, My Head is Going Round, features recording artist Taryn Blake Miller of Your Friend fame and is perfect for driving, relaxing on the beach, low settings on the treadmill, foggy basements, and basking in the sun.

  • Mysterious Clouds release new EP “My Head is Going Round”

Haymaker Records releases the EP My Head is Going Round by psychedelic rock group Mysterious Clouds on cassette, CD, and digital media on Friday May 25, 2018. My Head is Going Round is the fourth release for Mysterious Clouds and will be celebrated with release parties in Kansas City, MO and Lawrence, KS. The first album release concert will be held at The recordBar, 1520 Grand Blvd, Kansas City, on Thursday May 24th at 7PM. Haymaker Records artist Jorge Arana Trio will join the bill and be recording their set for a future live album release. Kansas City band Temp Tats will open the night. Saturday June 2nd, Lawrence will play host with a release party at Replay Lounge, 946 Massachusetts Street, with CS Luxem and The Beholders.

Mysterious Clouds is the musical work of Kansas City, Kansas musician Dedric Moore with songwriting assistance from his brother Delaney Moore. The group formed in 2015 and includes several members from the brothers’ other band Monta at Odds. Mysterious Clouds was created to explore various forms of psychedelic music and the darker elements of nature with inspirations from 60’s Italian cinema, 70’s British TV action music, San Francisco hippie psychedelic rock, garage rock, and post-punk.

While recording the 2017 album Panic on the Noon Meridian, Delaney Moore (yes, the hidden brother) started feeding the band a steady stream of lost West Coast ’60s psychedelic music. These nuggets helped the band steer through the heavy vibe of the studio and inspired an outlet, a light from beyond, a way to come through this in one piece: the new My Head is Going Round EP.

Taryn Blake Miller, of Your Friend fame, has been an ally of the band since performing at KC Psych Fest II. Random meetings turned into hangouts and discussions about working together. Stars aligned and Taryn took a break from recording her second LP for Domino Recordings, stopped in at Monta At Odds HQ, and immediately became the sister of the guys. She got it! And even better, Taryn added vocals to the summer-vibe songs that take them to that higher atmosphere. Along for the ride are Adam Davies (Janet the Planet, Monta at Odds) on guitar, baritone guitar and vocals; Zach Bozich (Monta at Odds, In the Back of a Black Car) on synths, electric piano, and vocals; Matthew Hayden (Monta at Odds, Found a Job) on drums, Aaron Osborne (Monta at Odds, Expo 70) on percussion, Brian Hodes on bass and guitar; and Delaney Moore (Monta at Odds, Gemini Revolution) on additional synths.

The music on My Head is Going Round works its way through laconic grooves, reverb-drenched guitars, classic extended fuzz solos, mellotron orchestrations, Middle Eastern ragas, and tape echo’ed vocals. The EP is Perfect for driving, relaxing on the beach, low settings on the treadmill, foggy basements, and basking in the sun.

  • Mysterious Clouds release new full-length “Panic on the Noon Meridian”

Kansas City record label Haymaker Records and Lawrence, Kansas cassette tape collective Whatever Forever will collaboratively release the album Panic on the Noon Meridian by psychedelic rock group Mysterious Clouds on cassette, CD, and digital media on Friday May 26, 2017. Panic on the Noon Meridian is the third album and first full length release for Mysterious Clouds and will be celebrated with release parties in Kansas City, MO and Lawrence, KS. The first album release concert will be held at The recordBar, 1520 Grand Blvd, Kansas City, on Sunday May 28th at 8PM. Friday June 9th, Lawrence will play host with a release party at Replay Lounge, 946 Massachusetts Street.

Mysterious Clouds is the musical work of Kansas City, Kansas brothers Dedric and Delaney Moore. The group was formed in 2015 and includes several of the members from the brothers’ other band Monta at Odds. Mysterious Clouds was created to explore various forms of psychedelic music and the darker elements of nature with inspirations from 60’s Italian cinema, 70’s British TV action music, San Francisco hippie psychedelic rock, garage rock, and post-punk. The group’s latest offering, Panic on the Noon Meridian, explores the swirls of shoegaze rock, the space exploration of psychedelia, and the drone of ambient music while searching for inner truth in the cultural chaos. Like previous EPs Vibrations Shake the Path and Clear Reflection, the group continues to build on the fuzzed-out guitars, booming bass, and synthesizer-driven leads that define psychedelic rock. The difference, however, lies in the mood of the album – Panic on the Noon Meridian is a dark body of work, reflecting the changing times and turmoil in hearts, mind, and country.

Panic on the Noon Meridian was recorded, mixed, and mastered by Dedric Moore at the band’s home studio Monta HQ throughout 2016 and early 2017. Being produced in-house allowed time for the album to marinate and develop organically over the course of a rough election cycle, no doubt lending to the cast of the shadow on the often bubblegum world of psychedelic rock. Panic on the Noon Meridian will be made available May 26 digitally from the group’s bandcamp as well as on cassette and CD-R from Haymaker Records and Whatever Forever. The album marks the 13th release for Haymaker Records and the 37th for Whatever Forever.

For the recordBar release show on May 28th, Mysterious Clouds will be joined by fellow Kansas City psych-rock outfit The Philistines as well as Memphis psych-pop group Spaceface, which features guitar / keys player Jake Ingalls from The Flaming Lips. Advanced tickets may be purchased online through the The recordBar. For the June 9th Lawrence Replay Lounge show, the group will be paired with Lawrence psych-pop band Karma Vision and another band TBA. Copies of the new album will be available to the public for the first time at these events.

  • KC Psych Fest 2015/08/01 The Riot Room

KANSAS CITY, MO.KC Psych Fest kicks off its fourth year with a night of adventurous music on Aug. 1 at The Riot Room in Kansas City, MO. Co-sponsored by Haymaker Records, Mills Record Company, It’s a Beautiful Day, and Summer Moon Promotions, the show will feature performances by Ancient River, Mysterious Clouds, HMPH!, Psychotic Reaction, Drugs & Attics, and have a special DJ set by Mod Professor.

The 2015 KC Psych Fest will be spread across multiple dates in Kansas City in the late summer and fall with an emphasis on acts that excitingly venture outside of conventional music. More dates and appearances will be announced later. The mission of the festival is to present mind-expanding music from different music genres and provide a platform for Kansas City artists pushing the boundaries of music. This year’s festival continues to build on the positive experiences of the previous three years.

The Aug. 1 show is headlined by psychedelic rock band Ancient River. Based out of the UK and Austin, TX, their wall-of-sound barrage has been honed by extensive touring across the United States and beyond – including appearances at Austin Psych Fest (2010-2012), Los Angeles’ Psycho De Mayo (2014), Liverpool International Festival of Psychedelia (2012) and Milwaukee Psych Festival (2015). Psychotic Reaction join the show from rural Oklahoma. Showcasing high energy rock & roll, they draw comparisons to The MC5, Stooges, Roky Erickson, and Skip James. Three Kansas City acts are featured at the event. Mysterious Clouds is a new band that explores aspects of cosmic space music and is comprised of members of Monta at Odds, Expo ’70, and HMPH! Their first release, Vibrations Shake the Path on Haymaker Records, explores the classic 60’s mono mix approach. HMPH! is the two-piece math-rock outfit of Ryan Lee Toms (RLT) and Jonathan Thatch. With just drums, guitar, looping pedal, and effects, the concept is simple but the music is not. Their debut full-length vinyl release comes out in August on Haymaker Records. Drugs & Attics are a garage punk trio and have been quickly building a name in the Kansas City music scene. The night closes with the psych / mod / garage groove stylings of DJ act Mod Professor, the alias of legendary Kansas City / New York DJ Ray Velasquez. The event starts at 8:30PM and is a full night of entertainment.

Event details and advance ticket information are available at ticketfly and the Facebook event page.
